Wedding Favours - 10 ideas on how to thank your guests

These days, it’s common practice to thank your guests for attending your wedding (even though you’ve just bought them all an expensive 3 course meal, but hey ho!) These are normally cute wedding favours or wedding keepsakes that can be taken home.

Some couples like to go all out on their wedding party favours and spend an awful lot of money on something extravagant or edgy, but you don’t need to spend a fortune to satisfy your guests.

Here’s 10 different ideas on gifts for guests that they’ll appreciated and be something they actually want that will remind them of your big day:

1. Personalisation – Everyone likes something to keep that has their name on or is personal to them. This could also double up as a place setting, allowing each guest to know where they’re sitting. Instead of having a piece of card with their name on, how about a fridge magnet with their picture or a pretty frame that can be hung or their names made from wire?

2. Alcohol – Who doesn’t appreciate a little tipple? Each miniature bottle could contain your favourite drink or represent where the bride and/or groom are from, e.g. Weston’s Cider or Chase Gin if you’re from Herefordshire. You could also make your own slow gin for a personal touch.

We had an assortment of miniature gin and champagne for my son’s wedding last December. Each bottle had a tag that stated the bride and groom’s name and the date of their wedding (which went down pretty smoothly!)

3. Edible – Years ago when the dinosaurs roamed the earth, sugared almonds were the traditional favour for weddings. These days edible items are still very well received as gifts for guests. I love finding my seat and seeing a box of sweets, chocolates or biscuits waiting for me to tuck into before the wedding breakfast. The packaging can also be personalised with your wedding date.

4. Botanical – As the botanical theme is becoming increasingly popular, so is giving cute miniature succulents as wedding favours. An assortment of them can be displayed at each seat, creating a pretty botanical table setting too.

5. Destination Wedding – If you’re one of the lucky ones that has a beautiful destination wedding, there are a few little wedding party favours you could give that represents wherever you are in the world. For instance, a mini jar of olive oil would be good if it’s a Greek wedding, a pretty parasol or fan if it’s somewhere hot or likewise a fluffy blanket if it’s somewhere chilly. These also make lovely wedding keepsakes as guests can take them home too.

6. Candles – Another wedding favour that’s currently popular are candles. They can be dipped in a colour that matches your wedding theme, finished with a personalised tag or you can make them in a glass jar and have a pretty label with your wedding date on. Either way your friends and family can decorate their home with and burn it whilst remembering your day.

7. Quirky – Everyone loves a bit of quirk! If you’re looking at gifting your guests with something unusual, how about a worry doll? According to Guatemalan culture, they help with anxiety, which is a thoughtful favour and something everyone can benefit having. Or how about a station for guests to make something their selves, such as a flower arrangement or a bottle of gin? It’s also a great way to keep everyone entertained throughout the day.

8. Something Useful for the Day – Another great favour idea is something that your friends and family can use whilst watching you tie the knot. For instance, giving your guests a little camera can allow them to get involved on your special day and feel a part of it. It also allows you to capture special moments the photographer wouldn’t necessarily get (and can save money on a photo booth!). Another one could be biodegradable confetti to throw over you once you say, ‘I do’. An alternative option for the little ones could be a colouring book – a great way to keep them entertained during the toasts.

9. DIY – It’s always a lovely touch to make something that’s personal to you to give as gifts. This could be something to eat or drink that you whipped up in your kitchen or getting crafty and making a personalised coaster for everyone or even making your own flavoured lip balm. If you wanted to get a little fancy, you could also create your own perfume and give each one to your guest that would remind them of your special day every time they use it.

10. Your Interests – Other items you could use as wedding party favours can reflect your interests and hobbies (it is a day all about you, after all). If you’re a die-hard fan of Harry Potter, give everyone a chocolate wand or an alcoholic potion. If you share an interest of running, you could hand out cookies made from trainers. It also allows your guests to feel involved in your passion for one another and make the day an even more enjoyable experience.
